I paint to excavate the wonder of fleeting, everyday moments, captured in light, color and shapes. They can be expressive of humanness, or a deep connection to nature. The subject might be a glimpse of a face lost in thought, or a backlit flower petal, or the audacious survival of an old boat house. How I use color, brush strokes, light; how thick or thin the application of oils; all serve to convey the emotional richness of the moment, arriving spontaneously. The result might be representational or semi abstracted. It is the communication with the moment that drives its transmutation to canvas and meaning. As the viewer engages, it transforms again; becomes someone else’s moment, and so on. This is how I honor the moment.
